I woke up today, well rested and ready for the day ahead. It was cloudy outside, and this high up, cloudy meant very little visibility. However, we could still see parts of the volcano from time to time as the wind moved the clouds. By 7:45, we had our bags on the bus, then had breakfast at 8. It wasn't much longer before we were destined for Quito once again. The drive was early, so most of us slept on the bus. We arrived 2 hours later and at this point, our group split in half. A large chunk of our group was going to carry on to the Camerones work site for this week, while my group of about 15 would stay in Quito and do our medical rotations. We said goodbye and jumped off the bus in front of a restaurant for lunch - we really didn't want lunch at this moment since we just had breakfast 2 hours ago, but we didn't have a choice since hotel check in wasn't for a little bit. For sure I was full after that. We then walked to our hotel and checked in: i'm on the 6th floor, so i have a nice view of Quito and a balcony to enjoy it. Mid afternoon, we were given a quick briefing about the next day or two. Turns out, med rotations don't start until tomorrow afternoon so today was a free day. We all took the opportunity to relax. For a few hours, my roommate and I just watched tv in our room. By about 5 or so, we decided to go for a walk and find some coffee. Today was Ecuador's independence day, so the main square was filled with music and people on stilts. Unfortunately, the music they were playing really sucked - like they had never played their instruments before. Coffee was good, and by 6:30, it was dinner time. We went to a restaurant called "Crepes and Waffles". I had a delicious mexican chicken crepe. After this, one of our group said goodbye to us - his program ended today and he would fly home tonight. He told us that the med rotations were awesome, so I can't wait. In the last hours of the night, we found an english channel and watched a couple more movies. I'm glad we had a day to rest before all these crazy days begin
